Parish Registers - Purtle & Herreen
« on: Friday 22 September 06 10:02 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate the baptism & marriage dates of Patrick Purtle and Margaret Herreen, who it is beleived were born in Dromcolloher, Limerick between 1818-1820. It is beleived that patrick's father was a John Purtle & Margaret's father was a John Herreen who married a Mary. Patrick and Margaret came out to Australia on 1/10/1840 in the "Mary Dugdale' soon after being married in Limerick in 1839. they had approximately 12 children, whose lives are well documented. Any information anyone can provide about Patrick & Margaret's life back in Ireland would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Don't know if this helps or hinders!, but on the IGI there is a Daniel Herreen, marrying a Brigid  Purtle in about 1840 in Dublin; interestingly, this Bridgid Purtle is shown as being born about 1820 in Drumcolloher, Kerry, Ireland.
There is a son John Herreen  born about 1845 in Dublin.
Clearly these aren't the people you describe, as they'd already gone to Australia in 1840; but possibly they are related to 'yours'.
(Kerry isn't that far from Drumcolloher; you would have to check the administrative/parish boundaries etc etc to get a picture of the land divisions and so on).

This site has a few bits of interest on the parish:

Good luck!

Thanks Mags. Daniel & Bridgid are brother and sister to Patrick & Margaret. They also eventually came out to Australia and had a family here.

Hi, I come from Newcastle West, which is a few miles from Dromcolloher. Have you tried writing to the "Registrar of Birth/Death" St. Itas, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick, as I feel sure they could help you. All the best in your search.
