Hi - hope Jackaroo passed on the names, DoBs and PoBs I had previously found ?

Now you have a frm DoB - sorry to say theres no evidence of yer maun in 1871 - doesnt mean he's not still in England BUT the surname doesnt show in the overall area around Barnstaple - nor in 1861. You have to go back to 1851 to find the name in Coombemartin closeby.

However, there is a batch of the name HUSSLE (an easy mistran) and a 9 year old stepson near Barnstaple - in Berrynarbour - this surname can be seen in the area from 1841 ...

Have you tried searching for a Birth Index entry ?

There are none as yet transcribed Births for HURRELL

ACtually, i came across the Hussell name in census transcriptions (in Norfolk) while i was hunting in the wrong direction for my Thomas, and on looking at the actual image, it was definitely Hurrell, not Hussell. I had forgotten about that, so thanks for the reminder too.

Do you mean checking the birth index entry eg on freebmd? I couldn't find him, but will try again with the different spelling.
I will follow up with Jackeroo re the info you previously found and sent.
