1841 Census or Marriage Look up help
« on: Friday 22 September 06 13:35 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I've been struggling to find either Joshua Hodder (born abt 1811 in Morecombelake Dorset) or his wife Sarah (born abt 1809 in Bradpole Dorset.

In 1851 they were living in Charmouth, Dorset.

I've found them both in the 1851 and 1861 census but can find no other record in either BMD registers nor 1841 census

I've tried to think of possible transcription typos eg stodder, itodder to no available and have tried wildcard searches on christian and surnames

Any assistance with birth or marriage data very welcome.

TIA

Dee

ScRoppers, thanks for the reply although please forgive me for not quite understanding what you have said.

Where is your data taken from? Is it an indication of their marriage?

If the border between Devon and Dorset was very close would that explain why every census record I've found has him as being born in Dorset?

Forgive me if these are daft questions as I've only been at this for a fortnight.

thanks again

Dee

Mobo, that's briiliant. I've just got to work out why I could not find it!

Can I ask how/where your carried out your search?

Also, I don't suppose you could weave this magical talent you have to find Joshua in the 1841 census?

Mobo, slow down - I'm in overload :). I can barely access one reply before you come back with another. :)
I've work out what & where IGI is.
In your experiance would it be normal for a christening to be done 4 or 5 years after birth?

Many thanks for your help, I'm learning.

Andy

Hi Dee and Welcome to Rootschat !  Don't worry, we family historians are all learning all the time; anything you don't know, just ask, and you'll be surprised at how quickly someone here will come to your aid.

You can find the IGI (International Genealogical Index) on the following link

www.familysearch.org.

Just click on 'Search', then on 'International Genealogial Index', then type in your rerquirements and away you go.
