Dont forget that the 1841 census rounds adults (15 and above) DOWN to the lower 5 year multiple - so if this chap told the Enumerator he was between 25 and 29, he would still be recorded as 25.

I saw the other chap but discounted as the wife wasnt Sarah - and you hadnt mentioned a child.

Oh I see. I had no idea rounding was done on the age. I was beginning to wonder about the accuracy of some of the census data.

Is there some text somewhere that explains how the various censuses were recorded?

in 1838 in Bridport, Dorset

On the same page was a Mary CADDY


which could be Joshua with first wife Mary

and

A Joshua HODDER married in
1847 in Bridport, Dorset
Sep Qtr  8 55

On the same page was a Sarah SYMONDS


which could be Joshua with second wife Sarah

thank you for your kind offer but I think (hope) that we are beginning to get the hang of these census and BMD searches although I am sure there will be further opportunities.

I tend to agree you you ref his two marriages. The son I am interested in is David son of Sarah. Sarah BTW lived to a ripe old age of 93! not bad for the 19th century.
