Ken Dodd does actually live in Knotty Ash!!! 
Joice, Coburn, Fairs - Easington, Durham villages, Jarrow, Hebburn, Monkwearmouth, Chester le Street, Gateshead, Haswell....she was only a coal miner's daughter (well, grand-daughter)

I live in Knotty Ash and the jam-butty mines were in the fields behind my house! It still retains its village atmosphere despite being in the middle of the urban sprawl and yes Ken lives just up the road.
