Record Office in Ruthin

Off to Wales tomorrow for a couple of days. Thought i'd got everything nicely planned and then--read through, properly, this time!! the info re Ruthin Record Office. Apparently you're supposed to book a microfilm reader in advance and of course Poli, being Poli hasn't!!!
Can't ring up today Sat. Open only weekdays.

What do you reckon my chances are of actually getting to see some relevant records? Poli

Oh I would give them a "sob story" of how far youv'e travelled etc,it generally works!

whenever mam and I have gone, not all the microfilm readers are in use anyway, so chances are you'd get a go on one

I was quite lucky really. called in the Records office on Monday and was told "sorry, all booked today" but i managed to get one booked for the Tuesday. Spent Monday morning going through electoral lists hunting for addresses. Found a couple that helped me 'pin down' a couple of relatives. On Tuesday i looked at loads of Parish records which,while i didn't manage to find a great deal of what i had hoped for i did get a couple of 'siblings' that i hadn't known about . Most importantly though was the realisation that one group of family members i thought were mine need looking into more deeply!!!

If you want a 'laugh' read on!!!

My daughter  and i visited 4 of the villages that my Grandparents and Gt. Grandparents were born in and we wandered around the graveyards. In the last one at Llangwym we uncovered, with great difficulty i might add, 4 flat headstones mostly covered with tree branches and moss. We scraped a bit of the moss off and found they were Hughes and family. All excited we cleared as much as we could and yes, the names all seemed to fit. We spent 1/2 hr clearing up so we could read them and realised that all the dates were wrong. A'h well, we did a 'good turn' for some other Hughes relatives somewhere!!!   Poli

P.s i'm going to post what was written on the gravestones and hope to get a translation from someone.
