Thank you everyone for your input.

My paternal granfather and grandmothers wedding certificate, William George McLennan and Ann Ball 15/12/1928, Liverpool,  states her father as Robert Parry Ball, Mariner. I know for a fact this is correct, because my dad who is still alive can verify it.
From here I found the only Robert Parry Ball from the BMD index, in the Liverpool area. I then found his wedding certificate to Annie Collins 14/11/1897, Toxteth Park, it states he was 22 and a Mariner. He lived at 16 Combermere St., at the time. This fits with them in the 1901 census, even down to the Collins family living with them.

I then searched between 1874-1877 for a Robert Parry Ball birth. I found it to be in 1875 West Derby. I ordered his birth certificate. It states he was born 16/3/1875, his mother was Mary Ball (formely Morgan), his father Henry (Dentist). They lived at 51 Couvbury (or Overbury) St., West Derby.

Who knows why she put dentist!!!!!

I think all my other info on this family is correct, it was just this one thing that threw me!!!

I have actually traced the Collins family in Bishops Castle, back to 1736!!!

I would be interested if you have any more thoughts on this.

Cheers,

Found a marriage for Hannah Ball (Robert's sister per the Henry Ball, fish dealer, trail) in Toxteth Park in 2Q 1889 8b 402. She married William Nelson and in 1891 they too are living in Combermere Street at 1 House, 3 Court:

RG12/2925, Folio 105, P. 34

William Nelson 28 Dock labourer
Hannah do 20

Thanks guys  :-*  I think I should go down the line of the fish dealer!!  The address of Overbury st, and their names look correct. Also, 16 Combermers St., and yes, dentist looks better than fish dealer!!!

Why do you think they put Morgan instead of Ball on the 1881 census?

They don't make things easy for us, do they?

"Why do you think they put Morgan instead of Ball on the 1881 census?"

They were probably trying to avoid the debt collectors!
