I have a couple of lines that go back into the 1400s but not my work.  The one that I have looked at myself going back furthest goes back into the 1500s.  Had great fun reading the parish registers of that time, the comments were priceless!!

I clicked 1700s and voted, and then realised one of my Cornish lines goes back to 1600.  DUH   ::)

I have one line back to about 1605. Not my work but I was able to provide the researcher with what happened to my line and it's been fun to work with him on it. I also have one line to the late 1500s. I actually did a lot of research to get back there and when I actually found my 9X great- grandfather, I also found another family member doing research and he had a lot more research to share with me about each of the generations.

I love those. I have one where the parish wrote for an illegitmate birth, "Mother unwilling to marry the father, who is Protestant and worthless." At first I thought it was just the way it was written and the couldn't possibly mean what it says, and then I realized, no they probably mean exactly that.

My earliest known rellie died in 1622 - got his will but still looking for his marriage and birth!

Some of those early registers are priceless - especially the ways they describe children who had the misfortune to be born to unwed mothers.   :o

Old wills can make for interesting reading too - mine refers to a "natural child"!   :-X

Hubby's side (thanks to a 3rd cousin) goes back to 1478
My side (with my own work) only goes back to 1750's or so

Quite a few cousins have become interested in family history since I started and so we don't end up repeating the original work, they have searched for the spouses of common rellies and got back to 1600's and early 1700's.
I cannot seem to get much further back than that regardless of what I do
Must be  missing something
