Moss Alley is ,or was ,adjacent to the Tate Modern.
The Booths hand drawn map shows " City Electric Light Works" This is the converted power station that is now the art gallery.
I think Moss Alley was off Park Street, which is still there ,and to the rear of Vinopolis. There is a housing estate, so who knows Moss Alley may be incorporated into it.

Hi Patricia

Yes I think you are right that would be the power station, must have been me misreading the map, but surely that makes it in St Peters? rather than St Saviours doesnt it?

No not in London today, but I'm not far away so its probably worth a trip sometime soon, I'm sure I can find other things to do there.

Hi Anthony
I have ancestors living in Moss Alley from about 1858 to to roundabout 1881 which they came from White Hind Alley which is the next Alley along.  They are both where the Tait Modern is now. So you can see I am interested in the Bankside area of Southwark.

Oops I can see how I misread the 1790 map, it hasnt got Southwark Bridge on it and I mistook Blackfriars Bridge for it  :-[

Sue

Well perhaps they were neighbours? Mine were Maloneys who had emigrated from Cork at the time of the potato famine.

Yes I noticed the " St Peters " on the map. I imagine it was superseded by St Saviours.
Have a look at these to Genuki links, perhaps it will make it clearer.
