Joseph Evans Barry street look up

Please could I have a look up for a Joseph Evans at Flora St. in 1897.

hi diana, i am afraid there  was no joseph evans in flora street in 1897. in fact the only joseph evans i can find in barry at this time is:- joseph evan's     mason    17 gaen street, barry. this does not mean he was'nt there as i only have the street directory to go by which only show's the house holders name he could have been a lodger, but definitly no evans living there as house holders, kali. i do not have access to the 1901 census but this would be your best bet if someone could look it up for you, cheers and all the best. p.s. flora street is now called college road.

There are 4 'Joseph Evans' in Barry on the 1901.  Do you have year and place of birth of yours?

Hi Cas and Kali - yes that is him in the 1901 census - sorry should have told you his age etc.      So he obviously moved house between 1897 and 1901.     Are the two roads close by.   He was the clerk of works/mason in 1901.    I haven't been  able to find out what he was clerk of works for!

The occ had clerk of works (mason) in brackets, so I take it to mean he was clerk for a mason?

hi again diana, gaen street is abt  one & a half miles from flora street, the houses in flora st would i think be a step up the ladder near the town centre & docks the previous owner of 15 flora st was a john paul occupation hobbler (this was the guy who helped docking the ships on arrival and departure, quite a well payed job in barry) the town was just developing and there would have been plenty of work for mason's.  it was a thriving bustling town at this time, kali

Hi Kali AND Cas   - thank you both very much.      I know that he was comfortably off by the time he retired  as he lived well for his long years of retirement.    I have many stories from my mother.       I cannot find a death for him anywhere.   I think he died after 1940 but where I do not know and mother is dead now so I cannot ask her.  Eda Martha Diana  was my grandmother.      I have all the censuses on him and his two wives - thank you and his marriage certificates and bapt. entry.     I always try to find out more so it is not just a name and a number!
