1841 & 1851 census-Ballantrae-Leckie please
« on: Tuesday 26 September 06 13:47 BST (UK) »
Hello
I am having difficulty with Leckie family because of same christian names being used by different families so wondering if someone could look up the census and tell me who is with Jean Leckie born c 1814 in 1841 and if there are 2 Jeans born c 1841 and 1844 in the 1851 census or if these are the one person and also family of David and Jean Clark in 1851 as I have David Clark married Jean Leckie in 1842.
Thanks
Carmel

Hi - I've just joined and found reference to John Clark.  I think his son, David aged 6, in "runningbear's" reply is the same John Clark (also a blacksmith) listed in the 1911 Census.
At this stage he was 56 having remarried in 1898 to a Margaret McWhirter (who had been widowed) then aged 38.  The lived in Ailsa View, Ballantrae

They married 8 April 1898 in Ballantrae.

David already had two sons -
John 12 and David 2 (ages in 1901)
Margaret brought four children -
Andrew 13, Margaret 12, Annie 10 and James 6 (ages in 1901)

Annie McWhirter was my grandmother

I know this is not the branch you are researching but I had the info so I thought I'd share it.

Rob

Thanks Rob
I was doing research on Jean Leckie for a cousin but we found enough to decide they were 2 different people and got the ancestry we needed.  I am also researching Leckie from Ireland on one of my husband's branches so it is good to keep every bit of info as it may fit in somewhere later.
Best Wishes, Carmel
