1831 CENSUS - WYER - KIDDERMINSTER WORCESTER
« on: Wednesday 18 February 04 11:12 GMT (UK) »
I don't know if it is possible to go back this far for census requests - but if possible, I am looking for a JOHN WYER who was 40 in  August 1870 (from his marriage certificate), so (hopefully) would be 1 yr old in the 1831 census.    He was married at the Parish Church of Kidderminster, so presume he had always lived in that area.    Would be very grateful to anyone who could find him and his family.

Hi there Marjorie

Unfortunately very few if any of the 1831 census returns survive.
Lists of the names of inhabitants from the census returns were NOT preserved nationally until 1841
But, saying that, some lists were preserved locally either as drafts, or as copies.  They are of Heads of Households, rather than full population listings and they can be found as part of the Overseers papers surving amongst parish records.

The information that they contained was of little use to the Family Historian as it only gave:

Street         Name                No      Occupation        M    F      Fam
West Hill     Crisford Will      1         Miller                  2    3      2

That is - William Crisford, Occupation was a Miller, Living in a house on the West Hill, containing 2 families - total occupants were 2 males and 3 females.

Not much to go on is it

Hi Chris  -   thank you once again for coming to my aid, although this time with a disappointing but very useful  reply.

As Samuel was born in 1830 I obviously cannot trace him, or his parents, on "1837online" so for the time being I come to a halt with my Wyer family - so will concentrate on my other families!

Many thanks.

There seems to be a lot of parish records from the Worcester area that have been indexed.  I have had an amazing amount of success looking at the I.G.I. index on the Morman site.

I had a quick look for John Wyer.

A John Wyer was Christened in Kidderminster in 1825 - he was the son of Richard and Eliza Wyer.

Could 'your' John Wyer be a little 'out' with his birthdate?

Many thanks for that lead - although I have used the Morman site before for some reason I haven't used the IGI.   I actually got Samuel and John's dates muddled but have found Samuel on the IGI  and maybe his father John and John's parents - I have yet to try some how the verify this.

Many thanks for your help.
