Name appears on Census but not on Birth index

I need a bit of help/advice here.

My g/f, Anthony FERGUSON, was born 13.06.1902, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.  I have not been able to trace his birth index, so because of Scottish links I looked on ScotlandsPeople.

There was only 1 Anthony FERGUSON born in 1902 but that was 17.02.1902 and I am not convinced this is the right person.

Out of curiosity I decided to check the Scottish census for Anthony FERGUSON’s father (another Anthony FERGUSON).  I found him but also found that there was an entry for a further Anthony FERGUSON born around 1900, but this person did not appear in my original index search !  Therefore I can’t view his birth record to see if this may be the right Anthony FERGUSON.

Any clues/ideas ?

SP has the following births for an Anthony Ferguson between 1895-1905 :

one born 1899
one born 1902

The SP Census for 1901 has five Ant* Ferg* (all ages)

FreeBDM is complete for this time period (which you probably know) - the closest I could find was
Anthony Fergusson Jun 1903  Sunderland   10a 743

My UK geography is not good but parloc tells me Sunderland is 9.7 miles from Newcastle upon Tyne.
