Grocers in early Woodbridge, Suffolk
« on: Friday 29 September 06 07:02 BST (UK) »
I have some ancestors who list their occupation as Grocers.
how early were the guilds and what might I learn from them?

Edmond Cross(e) the elder
b. abt 1620 of Woodbridge (may have been b. in Framlingham and may be the son of Edmond and Margery)
resided in Woodbridge by abt 1650.

his son
Peter Cross(e)
b. 18 Aug 1647 (old calender) of Woodbridge

both of these men were grocers by trade.

Edmond is my 8x great grandfather, his son Peter is my 7x great grandfather. there were other sons by Edmond, but all I can find of their occupation, those that I know the occupation of, is yeoman. not an actual occupation, but one I wouldn't mind having! LOL...
