Hughes in 1600/1700s
« on: Wednesday 18 February 04 12:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I'm trying to find the parents and grandparents of John Hughes, Mayor of Monmouth in 1771, d 1790, wife Elizabeth Gwyn.

He is supposedly a descendant of Thomas Hughes of Moynes Court, who died in 1624.

Can anyone help???

Thanks

Not a direct answer to your query - but, do you have any connection with Ann and John Hughes farmer of Chepstow. Penguin produced her diary for 1796-1797 published 1979..

Just a thought, as I bought this book at a bootsale today and would love to find a relative of Ann Hughes.

Sorry, no.  There are several Hughes families in the area and, of course, they all use the same first names...!!

Cheers, Dave

I have a descent from the Hughes of Moynes Court but am unable to locate your John Hughes in my tree taken from Bradney's History of Monmouthshire.
