Regiment transferes During WW1

I found a newspaper article that reported on my grandfathers (Leonard V. Robins) wedding in 1916 stating he was in the Royal Suffolk Regiment. However, when I checked the medal roll on-line I can’t find him in the Suffolk but in the Essex Regiment.  Would soldiers have been transferred between regiments? I believe that he did serve in the Suffolk Regiment as he was posted to India in 1916, which would fit with the regiment’s deployment at this time.
