I think you cracked it there as he was a Tinplate worker and birth matches for John, yes please check the 1851 if you can

Cannot locate in 1841 yet will look again tomorrow, also see if I can locate baptisms/Marriage of parents, but only have Glamorgan indexs and it is not complete.
