Can you read this occupation please?
« on: Tuesday 03 October 06 13:30 BST (UK) »
I hope I'm about to attach a copy of an entry in the Perth PR marriages for 1798. I'm afraid it's not too clear, but can anyone please make out what is the occupation of the bride's father David Young?

I'd say something with 'wright' at the end, like wheelwright but it's too short to be that.

Can anyone please help?

Jill

Hi Jill

It looks like a slightly miss-spelt Mill or Millswright -

Milswright  ???

Gadget

Millwright - someone who made and maintained mill machinery - early engineer!

Millwright it is - thanks everyone.

I googled it and, not only is Gadget's definition spot on, but it's also defined as a Scottish occupation.

Jill.
