John Hanmer Mary Edwards Marriage Wrexham.
« on: Tuesday 03 October 06 17:35 BST (UK) »
There is a well known saying in Genealogy; If you can't be good,be lucky!I have been looking for quite some time now for the Marriage of my Greatx3-Grandparents John Hanmer and Mary Edwards, the trouble being that I had been looking in all the wrong places! As all their children were Baptised at Overton in Flintshire,I was looking for their Marriage in all the adjoining Parishes to Overton.
This afternoon I found their Marriage on the1st of May 1797 at Wrexham St Giles,at the Rhosymedre Resource Centre of Clwyd FHS.John Hanmer was said to be a resident of "Velyn Puleston".Can anyone say which particular Parish this place was part of?I have looked on the Genuki pages but to no avail.

Hi William

It's the Puleston where my Pulestons originated.

But F(V)elyn Puleston suggests Puleston's Mill to me - I presume there was one near Emral or Pickhill?

Gadget - rusty Welsh  ;)

oops - two Welsh women's views at once  :D

Possibly check Bangor on Dee?

Yet another PS - I'll have a look at Bangor on Dee later  ;)

So would this be the Pulestons of Bersham, Peter?

Looks like William should be looking at Minera/Coedpoeth.

Many thanks for your replies both Gadget and Peter, and it is I think almost certainly Felin Puleston, which I believe was near to the Erddig Estate, and just towards Rhostyllen. The answer presumably to my query is that it amost certainly lied within the Parish of Wrexham,at least at that time.

Wrexham.

Hi William, only just seen this thread and noted all the correspondence.

Felin Puleston is currently in the Community of Esclusham so I confidently expected to find it in the parish of Esclusham Below before reorganisation. However, a look at an old map places it in the very small parish of Erddig.

There used to be an Erddig ward in the old Wrexham borough, though, and I take it that this area (mostly C19th terraces) was formerly a part of Erddig parish before the borough expanded.

All best, Chris

Many thanks for your reply Chris, and you prompted me to have another look at the Genuki page for Wrexham which shows that until 1851 the township of Erddig was a detached part of Gresford.
