Are you looking for information on them or a relative?

If you want information  - let me know and I can have a look in St Albans library on my next visit.  You'll need to let me know everything you know so far and I can go from there.

Julie

Hi Julie
Thank you so much for your very kind offer!
I have only just found out about my Dad's grandmother.
Mainly because all this time I have been looking for a lady
named
Jane Hilton Goodman not Godman.
But this family I am sure is the right one.
I have looked for her fathers birth on www.familysearch.org and found out that he was bapt 29 Jan 1797 St Stephens St Albans.
His parents were Thomas Godman & Jemima.
Not sure if they had any more children I could only find Richard b 1797.

But I did find Richard Godman & Sarah ?
childrens bapt All St Albans but strange different churches
George Howard Godman bapt 20 Dec 1835 St Stephens
Mary Ann Godman bapt 3 June 1838 St Stephens
Jane Hilton Godman bapt 6 Sept 1840 St Peters
Henry White Godman bapt 25 Aug 1844 St Peters
William Bailey Godman bapt 5 July St Stephens
Emily Lucy Godman bapt 15 July 1849 St Stephens

Jane Hilton Godman married James Bolton
Their son John William Bolton born 1866 Kington St Michael near Chippenham was my Grandfather.
Who was sadly dead by the time I arrived.
So Julie this is all I know about Jane's folks before she married James Bolton my great grandfather.
Anything you can find out would be great.
I could not find Jemima and Thomas Godmans marriage or a marriage for Richard Godman to Sarah.
Thank you so much you are very kind.
Regards Christine.

I'll see what I can find - hopefully be going at the beginning of next week.
Do you need census information on the family, as I can do that even sooner!!

Julie  :)

Hi Julie
This is very kind of you to help me.
Thank you very much.
I was very kindly given the 1841 1851 census by Rick..
But would of course like the 1881 with any information about Richard Godman or any of his children.
I do not want to put you to much trouble so please only if you have time.
It said in the 1851 that Richard Godman was a land and timber surveyor.
Kind regards Christine.

It's no trouble - I enjoy looking for other people's relatives when I'm bored of my own  :o

Just thought I'd let you know what I have uncovered so far:

Richard Godman married Sarah Hilton in 1827 in South Mimms (Pallots Marriage Index)

His parents, Thomas & Jemima look like they had 11 children (at least!), all christened at St Stephens.  They are all listed on familysearch.org if you search the British IGI index and put Thomas Godman & Jemima in the parent boxes.  I will check them on the parish records when I get to the library.
I also found a death registered for Jemima Godman in 1843 in St Albans - not definitely the same one, but may be worth checking a bit more.

In 1861 Jane Hilton Goodman is living & working as a Housemaid in Rickmansworth, aged 20.  Her brother William Bailey Godman is also a House Servant in Leavesden, Watford, aged 15.  I haven't yet found any sign of Richard or Sarah after 1851.  There is possible match for Henry Godman (another of Jane's brothers) in the St Albans Workhouse in 1861.

I'm beginning to wonder if one or both of the parents died between 1851 & 1861 and the children hit hard times - purely speculation though.

I haven't got as far as 1881 yet, but transcripts of this is available free of charge at familysearch.org if you fancy a look.

I'll let you know what else I find,

Julie

Hi Julie
My goodness thank you very much for all that information.
You are kind.
I will have a look at the 1881 census online to see if I can find them.
Thank you very much for your help.
It's very much appreciated my Mother who is 86 just phoned me to see if I had found out any more about my Dad's side of the family. My Dad would have been so thrilled with all of this. He sadly died 1988.
But he was always trying to tell me about his family.
Thank you Julie
Regards Christine
