And...
If you go to the directory page for 1890

http://www.mjra.net/Henfield/keldir1890.shtml

it lists:
Warden, Thomas, Farmer -Lashmar's Hall

and on 1859 directory (http://www.mjra.net/Henfield/podir1859.shtml) it lists a
Lashmar Mr. Richard Marchant - possible connection to the origins of the hall.

Mark,

as an aside I remember well seeing the Warden's vans in our street (in Henfield) whenever anyone moved home - in those days we didn't  even realise  there was anyone else to do removals !!  :)
TULLETT (sussex),
LEE(Kent),
DALE(Sussex),
ANDREWS (who knows?),
LINDFIELD/LINFIELD(Sussex),
LANDER (Cornwall),
BLENCOWE (Sussex)
GROUT (Surrey)

Hi,Lesanne,
Many thanks for your info. It ties up exactly with names and dates we found on a trip to henfield cemetery last week. Have also had other replies with some really useful info. and web sites.
As you said -really fascinating stuff and now sit up on the PC till all hours!
Have found some not too distant family I didn't even know about.
Chat soon.

Hi Mark,
Many thanks for your help. The web addresses are really useful-specially to a beginner like me!
My grandfather harold warden started the removals business I think and this was carried on by my father Leslie. Wardens of Henfield carried on for a few more years after he retired  and then becameOld Mill removals.
If you remember henfield primary school and the old school on the common before it turned into a house, perhaps we were there at the same time?
Thanks again,
Babs.

Hi Andrea,
Many thanks for your info. Really interesting-have tied it up with info I already had.
Harry of Church Terrace was my great-grandfather and his son Harold my grandfather whose son Leslie was my father.
Also think Lashmars hall fits into the picture as well- Thomas Warden being the farmer at this address.
Thanks again,
Babs.

Have you tried the site   A2A    click on search the data base.
I put in Thomas Warden, came up with some great stuff around Henfield/Cuckfield.

Does the name Sergison mean anything?   :)   Lesanne.
