Hi Frances
I have the christenings thanks.  It's where George was between 1861 and 1891 that is the problem, and then who James their father was married to.
I can understand George being missing on one census but 3 seems a bit odd.
Thanks
Sue

Well Sue I have tried everything I can think of but cannot find George either, apart from the one on the 1881 & the two on 1891.

I have seen postings by other people where they seem to have the same gent with 2 families on a particular census. Now it could be that George was married to one lady & kept another family on the side OR was married to both ladies. The only way you will find out is to see if you can find a marriage for both Jane & Elizabeth.

I did look at the GRO indexes for a birth for George, I checked 1840-1845 & only came across one for West Ham district.
George HUNTER, 1842, Dec qtr, West Ham, Volume 12  pg 265

You can look for free - births/marriages/deaths

Click on England & Wales BMD  Indexes then on the next page pick from the list for Complete indexes.

Sally

Hi Sue,

A George Hunter married in Bethnal Green in 1873. On the same page was a Jane Hunter, IF he was yours  was it possibly a double wedding or did he marry a cousin? Another puzzle for you :-\

Hi Sally & Frances
Yes the 1842 birth is my George.  His father is named as George Hunter mother Susan Hunter, formerly Starling.
I have the marriage cert for George & Jane, it is the one that married in 1873 in Bethnal Green, and Jane's maiden name was also Hunter, but cannot find a marriage for George & Elizabeth.  Although I think if I was to find one the Elizabeth maybe Jane's sister, going by age and place of birth.
It is all so confusing.  If only I could find George on 61, 71 and 81, I think it would help solve  a lot of problems.
Thank you both for your help, I have just got to keep looking for anyone else that maybe doing the Hunters in this area and can shed some light on it.
Thanks again
Sue
