Tinure in Mullary
« on: Monday 09 October 06 17:15 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have a description of the small village called Tinure in the parish of Mullary, or of Mullary itself? My Boden ancestors lived in Tinure, certainly about 1830, hopefully earlier, and double hopefully still today.

Hi Simon

Small description of Tinure:  http://www.eastcoastmidlands.ie/content.asp?id=119

The current day phone directory for Ireland is:  http://159.134.203.172/search.asp?source=Eircom ... you could do a search .. you have to search by each county though.  Note that people can choose to be ex-directory so may not appear.

http://www.mc-research.com/County_Louth/Divisions/tlouth.htm#mullary - lists Mullary as a Civil Parish - and lists the townlands within Mullary...

Theres about 10 "Bodens" listed on this site:  http://www.jbhall.freeservers.com/bergin_-_brabazon.htm

Kind regards, Karen

ps: I'm sure you've seen both these websites with Bodens listed:
Griffiths 1854 - http://failteromhat.com/flax/louth.htm
Flax Growers 1796 - http://failteromhat.com/griffiths/louth/mullary.htm
Quinn - Tyrone, Ireland ; Greymouth/Waipori/Waimate South/Otago, New Zealand
Galway Carlow, Ireland
Grace Ireland
McSorley Ireland
Donnelly Skreen, County Meath, Ireland
Matthews Tyrone and Monaghan, Ireland
McKenna Tyedavnet, Monaghan, Ireland
O'Neill - Dublin, Ireland

There is a description of Moylary (Mullary) in 1837 on my web site (from Lewis's Topographical Dictionary) at:

There is a Matt Boden mentioned in a cess-payers list of 1786 for Moylary (Mullary) Parish. He held 3 acres. There is no other information given. (Source: Rev. J.B. Leslie, Cess Payers of Dunleer Union of Parishes, 1786-92 in 'Journal of the County Louth Archaeological & Historical Society' 1937.

and finally (as the ideas come to mind) ....

Is "Boden" also spelt as "Bouden"?

If so, there are references to the surname to be found in the 1822 Freeholders list at:

http://www.jbhall.freeservers.com/1822_freeholders.htm
