All very possible - plenty of Brant activity in Wokingham ...

I stuck with FreeBMD, so there may well be an earlier Jane Hopwood marriage preceding the 1845 birth if one searched the GRO images ... I wasnt particularly happy with 1848, just putting down a marker -

In 1851, all Janes born Swallowfield are not likely candidates ...

I'm not sure about the elder son option - altho she did name her father specifically on her marriage ...
food for thought ...

Perhaps Brigcs has just got to get that birth cert.

Mother Brant maybe never did marry father Hopwood.
So we'll never know which Brant is mother without the cert.
And seeing as she kept in close contact with the Hopwood's then hopefully dad Hopwood will be named on the cert.

Hi,

I am really grateful for all your help. I agree that maybe the birth certificate has to be my next step. A Sarah Brant also died in Wokingham in Mar Q 1846 so maybe the one born in 1845 died or maybe the one who died was her mother? Could be??

I'll update you once I get the certificate which might be a whil because it's on a waiting list of all those I want!

I will now see the Swallowfield by-pass in a different light.

Thanks again

Brigcs :D

I've come across a Sarah Brant aged 25 in the 1841 census in Wokingham. I reckon she was probably my Sarah's Mum. I think that certificate will have to go to top of my list.

Thanks again for all help.

Hi,

An update on my search for Sarah Brant Hopwood. I got the certificate for the birth of a Sarah Brant in 1845 but unfortuntately I don't think she was mine. It is very difficult to read the christian names but it looks like her father was a George Brant and her mother was Lorna(?) Brant, formerly Allen. No Hopwoods in sight. I'll go back to the drawing board!

Best wishes

Brigcs
