Birth look up advise please Killearn.

Can anyone advise me?
I am trying to find the birth of Margaret Brown, b. 1836/7 in Killearn.
She married John McAulay from Drymen.

I do not know Margaret's parents names for definite, but they could be Ann and Andrew Brown.

Couldn't find a Margaret Brown born in Killearn in 1836 +/- 5 years in the British Vital Records.

The nearest two were:

Margret BROWN, born 21 Jun 1836   , christened 17 Jul 1836 in Fintry
Father:   William BROWN     Mother: Christian EWING

Margaret BROWN, born 13 Nov 1837, christened 19 Nov 1837 in Campsie
Father:   John BROWN     Mother: Margaret GILLIES

There are 17 Margaret Brown births listed for the whole of Stirlingshire 1838 +/- 5 years.

I can find nothing on Margaret at all.

Her children were

Her husbands parents were James and Catherine McAulay.

So you can see I was trying to guess the names, using the Scottish naming way.

Have you tried Scotland's People for Margaret & John's Marriage Certificate?

I did a free search and only one record came up so it's probably worthwhile downloading it.

I tried various spellings of McAulay and the one that seemed to work was Mac Aulay (entering a space after Mac), and the years 1855-1858.

From this, you'll get the names of both sets of parents.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will turn out to be your pair - I don't have any credits left or I'd have had a peek myself as it's not very usual only to get a single result.

I entered Stirling in the County/City/Minor Records Field, and All Districts in the Districts Fiield.

I can only see one Margaret Brown that fits her age in the 1841 Census at Killearn, shown below with Brown household, all born in the County:

John, 45, Labourer
Anne, 40
Elizabeth, 10
David, 8
Margaret, 6
Anne, 4
Janet, 1

Address: Dichtie, Killearn, Stirlingshire

The marriage is Killearn in 1858, he is shown as John McAulley. The cert is not very clear but Margaret's parents were John Brown, Farmer and Ann (could be Jean also) McEwan.  John's parents are James? McAulley and possibly Cathrin McColl??

I spent about a year in Killearn (not literally  ScotlandsPeople wise, I mean, Anne did the physical bit for me xx) and don't think I ever came across a McColl so possibly something else.
