TIMMS in Marston Mortaine/Wootton
« on: Thursday 12 October 06 09:54 BST (UK) »
Hi,
can someone lookup the following details for me in the baptism and burial records of Marston Moretaine and Wootton for me?

Baptisms and burials of the children of James and Mary Timms
1839-1857/58-Marston Moretaine
1857/58-1862-Wootton
(I think those dates are correct.I'm pretty sure they moved to Wootton in 1857/58.It was certainly after 1851.)

Many thanks,it's very much appreciated,
Trisha ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

There is a record on IGI for the Baptism of a James Timms, age 7, father James, mother Mary, at Wootton for the 7th November 1858 if that’s of any help.

There is also a record on the same site for Marston in 1832 of the baptism of a James Timms, 4th November 1832. The parents are Richard & Elizabeth Timms.

Trisha

You may already have the following but just in case you are not aware of them they may be your family.

I have a burial for 1880 of  Annie Timms born 1858 Wootton. Spouse  Albert John Merrill he appears to have been born in Utah in 1864. I would therefore presume that Annie perhaps emigrated to the states.

There is also a Baptism in Marston 10th October 1852 of a David James Timms, mother Mary Timms. No details of father are given.

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan,
not sure who Annie was.I've never come across her before.Mary Timms is I think James Timms senior's sister.I'll have to check.

I thought it a strange one Trish especially as her name doesn’t appear on the 1861 census, the nearest in age being Sarah born about 1857.

Neither could I find a birth of an Annie Timms in the birth index for 1857-59.

I have often found IGI to be unreliable and I would discount that record unless you have concrete evidence of the Timms family turning up across the pond even though it did say this Annie Timms was born in Wootton, Bedford.

Hope I was of some help though.

Hi Alan,
yes you were a lot of help.
I'm trying to collate as much facts about my branch of the Timms as I can and any new facts are most welcome.

Bear in mind Alan that there are two types of entry in the IGI - controlled extracts, which are taken from parish registers and which are very reliable (Beds researchers are lucky as virtually all of Beds pre 1812 has been extracted onto the IGI), and member submissions which are just the opposite. You have to be aware of which entry it is - the one to which you refer is a member submission with even less than the usual amount of information and is probably pure speculation by whoever submitted it.

David
