Police Constable

my great grandfather was a police constable from approx 1860 to 1870.
he was resident in Great Amwell at that time.
does anyone know if service records were kept and if so how i might access them?

my great grandfathers name was William Biscoe, however he seems always to have used the name of John Biscoe.
