Birth look up advise please, Kilmaronock
« on: Friday 13 October 06 11:51 BST (UK) »
I have just found the marriage of my gggg grandparents JAMES MCAULLAY (McAulay) and Catherine MCUIL (McColl) (as stated on SP)
They were married on 28th Jan 1815.

I would like to look up their births to try and find their parents names.

Catherine was born in Kilmaronock.
Where could I find the parish register for her birth/bpt.
The family were Church of Scotland, so I am guessing they were still C of S then.

Thank you.

Hi Billy,
No it is not Kilmarnock I want but KilmarOnock.
It is no longer on the map, but if you type the name in google it shows you where it is.
Near Bonhill.
I did visit the Church in Kilmaronock in May.

I have to say one of my distant rellies who is from Scotland has never heard of it either.
If I knew how I would attach a pic of the church.

Thank you.

Hi Pettsy,

Wow! -That looks quite easy to confuse with Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. I think Bonhill comes under Dunbartonshire, might help to post on that page too.

Good Luck

Duncan

Hi Duncan,

It is very easy to get confused.
Yes it would be a good idea to start thread in Dunbartonshire.

See if I have any more luck.

Thanks  for advice.

Hi Again,

Sorry I was too busy looking at the Kilmaronock bit to see your question. If the records aren't on SP might be worth checking with Dumbarton Library

http://www.wdcweb.info/library/displayarticle.asp?ID=256

or the Church of Scotland - don't have a web address.

Good Luck

Duncan

...and hi again too Pettsy!

Using the spelling of McColl that was used on her marriage entry in 1815 to James, I've found this entry on IGI, actual extract:

KATHRINE MCUIL  Christening:  08 MAY 1794   Kilmaronock, Dunbarton, Scotland

Parents: Father:  ALEXANDER MCUIL    Mother: ANNEY CAMERON

Looks like who ever reported her death in the 1880s got her parents' first names wrong.

Thank you Duncan,
i will try the Libary, they are very helpful.

Hello again Monica,
Thank you.
I was just trying to find Catherine's parents marriage.
I will re try with the new names.

I have had some more good luck, just found my 6 x great grandparents on my Munn side.
James Sclater and Janet Lockart, their daughter was born 1766.
But I cannot find James and Janets marriage.
I am off to the IGI site now  ;)

Thank you again Monica.

Using the batch code for Kilmaronock, two brothers showing for Catherine:

JOHN MCOUEL  Christening: 12 JUN 1784 Kilmaronock, Dunbarton, Scotland
ROBERT MCUIL Christening: 25 NOV 1796 Kilmaronock, Dunbarton, Scotland

No marriage for the parents showing there though, maybe they married elsewhere?
