Jackson's Little Stukeley
« on: Saturday 14 October 06 17:43 BST (UK) »
I am interested in any information about the Jackson family mainly in the Little Stukeley area, but some did move to Yaxley. I have got back to William Jackson b1746 in Little Stukeley and married Elizabeth Brown. I would like to know more about them and their parents. Can anybody help?

Many thanks

Welcome to Rootschat

There's only one Jackson marriage in Lt Stukeley 1701-54; in 1732 between Edward Jackson and Elizabeth Fairchild. Whether these are the parents of William only reference to the parish register can reveal.

A transcript of the parish register is available from Hunts FHS or the PR can be viewed on microfilm at your nearest Family History Centre of the LDS or at Huntingdon Records Office. But unfortunately,  for this period Lt Stukeley records are not on the IGI, nor on the BVRI

Whilst what may be a second marriage to Sarah Putterill in 1787 looks a possibility given the death of an Elizabeth in 1786, he's not marked in the marriage index as a widower, unlike other marriages at around this time where one or other parties is so annotated.

Regards

David

Many thanks for your reply David. It maybe that William's parents moved from another Parish into Little Stukeley before William's birth, which will make it more difficult to locate.

Regarding the marriage to Sarah Putterill, it think it is a good assumption, the only problem being as you state William is not shown as being widowed on the records.

The first job is to see if he was baptised in Little Stukeley. If he was you can get his parents, and then use Hunts Marriage Index to find their marriage (if it was in Hunts that is!). If he wasn't baptised in Lt Stukeley life becomes much more difficult!

I agree that notwithstanding the lack of "widower" it was likely to be your William who remarried in 1787, even though, looking at your tree on Rootsweb, he was producing children until late in life.

Hi Richard, we are researching the same family, I've possibly found William's father was Samuel from Great Gransden Huntingdon 1720 and mother Esther Emmerson fom Huntingdon 1726 but I'm still trying to confirm it
