I am hoping someone can help me with confirming that I have the right couple.
JAMES DICKSON was born 30/03/1812 in Mouswald, Dumfries, Scotland. He possibly married ELIZABETH EDGAR 27/11/1833 in Mouswald, Dumfries. She was born Abt. 1812 (could be earlier SWAG* in use), unknown POB and died about 06/03/1852 in New York, USA according to Dumfries newspaper obit. I have no idea on her parents or siblings and would like to find which EDGARs she belongs to.
Children of JAMES DICKSON and ELIZABETH EDGAR are:
i. MARGARET DICKSON, b. 17/08/1834, Mouswald, Dumfries, Scotland.
ii. THOMAS DICKSON, b. Abt. 1836, Mouswald, Dumfries.
iii. MARY DICKSON, b. Abt. 1838, Mouswald, Dumfries, Scotland.
iv. RICHARD DICKSON, b. 12/03/1841, Dalton, Dumfries, Scotland.
v. HENRY DICKSON, b. 07/01/1843, Dalton, Dumfries, Scotland.
vi. JOHN FELL DICKSON, b. 15/02/1845, Dalton, Dumfries, Scotland.
My reasoning for the possible union is that the 2nd & 3rd children could be named after James's parents Thomas Dickson & Mary Glendinning and Richard (No. iv) is also his grandfathers name. John Fell was the Joiner husband of an aunt of his, Jean or Jane Dickson. James was a Blacksmith according to the 1841 Census like many in his family.
I believe that they migrated to the US, obviously between 1845 and 1852 and I am unaware of what happened to them after that or if any of the children stayed in Scotland, most likely Margaret if anyone. There are also possiblity of other children not found yet.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Cheers
