Death help in Drymen. 1841 census help?
« on: Sunday 15 October 06 14:47 BST (UK) »
I have just copied the death cert of my gggg grandmother on SP. Her name was Catherine Mc Aulay and she died July 1883 aged 90.

Now on her death cert it names her parents as William McColl and Mary Cameron (my ggggg grandparents)
William was a Dykebuilder.

Would there be any way of finding their marriage, or deaths, I had a quick look with no luck  ???
I though maybe you experts would have more luck than me.

Or maybe they are on the 1841 census?

I would love to finds them, it's great to go back to my 5x great grandparents.
I never thought I would get this far  :D

Thank you

Pettsy  :)

Hi Pettsy, This probably won't help you much,

I notice from the other posting that Monica found Catherine McColl McAuley for you in 1841 in Drymen so I won't post that but just to let you know, I can't find anybody called William or Mary McColl on the 1841 old enough to have been Catherine's parents ...

I did find some McColl families living in Killearn (after saying I'd not come across that name in Killearn, turns out they lived in shouting distance of my 3G's who also lived in Village  ;D)

Living in Village, Killearn,

James McColl, aged 36, Shepherd, born in Scotland
Elizabeth McColl aged 35, born in Stirlingshire
John McColl aged 9, born in Stirlingshire
Janet McColl aged 7, born in Stirlingshire
James McColl aged 5, born in Stirlingshire
Mary McColl aged 2, born in Stirlingshire

Also Village, another family,

Malcolm McColl aged 40, labourer, born in Scotland
Jean McColl aged 30, born in Stirlingshire
John McColl aged 3, born in Stirlingshire
James McColl aged 1, born in Stirlingshire

Lachlan McColl aged 30, male servant, born in Scotland, living at Anchinedham Lodge (think this is a mistranscription), Killearn

Jessie McColl aged 20, female servant, born in Stirlingshire, living at Ballikinrain, Killearn

I am wondering if they may be connected to yours? Also notice that the elder McColls were not born in Stirlingshire, McColl seems to be an awfully popular name in Argyllshire, might be worth a look there?

regards,

Lindsay

Hi Lindsay,

Yes Monica found Catherine Mc Aulay's death, and I was able to print her death cert off SP.  ;)
leading me to find my 5 X GREAT GRANDPARENTS  ;D
She also managed to find a William McColl, 55y living along, so you never know.

I have made a note of the names and hopefully I will be lucky enough to make some sort of link.

I will see if I can find anyhing in Argyllshire.

Thank you  ;)
