Can anyone tell me whether there were any pubs in Ilford High road that are likely to have been there in 1891 and what they are/were called?

There was a huge pub called The Cauliflower in Ilford High Road in the late 1960's to the late 70's(I think the street number would have been about 500, or almost opposite No.500).....as to whether it had the same name in 1891, I can't say (I didn't go in there then, contrary to popular belief...) but it might give you a start in reseaching back.

The Cauliflower pub is still in Ilford, and I don't think much has changed about it!

Charles Henry Snow states that he was a publican in 1891. He is living in Ilford High Road at the time. I've assumed (possibly wrongly) that he would probably run a pub close to where he lives
Eaton (Woughton on the Green, Doncaster and N. London), Davis(Shinfield and London), Harrington (Ireland and London), Sutcliffe (Todmorden and London), Williams, Hollingsworth (Thaxted), Lane (Rotherhithe), Fuller (Chesterton, Cambs), Dilley (who knows where????)

Hi Jillie42
The only reason I asked was that packed away I have some old postcards of Ilford. Had you known the name of the pub and it was not on the Essex Pubs site I would have delved down on a slim chance that I had could have found the correct one :-\

Kind Regards,

Frances :)

If it is any use, I have a small blizzard of Snows from around the same period....Hampstead and Islington.

I haven't researched them in depth, but there isn't a Charles Henry Snow.If you think there is a link, I'll post a few here.

Charles Snow was the son of William Ephraim Snow who apparently originally came from Kingsbridge in Devon. He lived in Tredegar Square, Mile End.
