As Eaton Square is probably the poshest address in Mayfair/Chelsea etc (and has been for a long time) so Tredegar Square was in 1800s the poshest address in East London. It was built by and for those who made bundles out of sending coal from Wales (hence the name) to London's docks. Property there was very suitable for multi-occupation when the toffs moved out but an acquaintance has told me that Tredegar Square has recently begun to be yuppified on a very grand scale.
So if your Charles Snow's dad lived in Tredegar Square in 1800s the family was likely to be well off
