Hello Sheila,
yes they are listed as Sykes but as you say must be the Knights - they have the Stewarts with them and there are Sykes on the next page- very puzzling!
Teresa you wil be able to look these up in Ancestry or Family Search!

Had a quick look at the suggested census by Heywood.
Anyone know why surname at this time is Sykes and not Knight ?

probably just an error- but we can't be sure - unless something else turns up.

I suppose the best thing is to work backwords from Arthurs marriage to Sarah Brooks after 1901 using the marriage certificate to verify Arthurs fathers name and then look at Arthurs birth certificate.

Hello Teresa,

Just an update from yesterday, I think Heywood is right in the thinking that it was in error,I have family in the same area that the enumerator had wrong.....must have been having a bad day!

I was planning on going to the library for myself tomorrow (hopefully if nothing gets in the way).
The NFHS baptism indexes for Eaton only cover 1813 to 1901 and I didn't find your George so maybe he was baptised in the year prior to 1813....but as luck has it the library I am going to has the baptisms for Eaton so will look if you would like me to?
Also, if you haven't sent for the marriage for Arthur and Sarah Brooks I could see if I can find that?........did you notice on the FreeBMD they married marchQ 1902 and the other couple also on the list with them is Mary Jones and Albert Stewart, so my guess is, this could be your Arthur's cousin who appears on the 1881 census with the family.

Sheila.

Thank you Sheila for that helpful information.

If it does not cause you too much trouble too look at the library for George (senior) baptism. Exciting news that  Sarah & Arthur were married at the same time as their cousin. I had not sent for certificates as I am soon meeting a relative who has been looking at the family history and didnt want to duplicate what she may already have.although she has not gone into too much deprth on the knight side of the family.

Much appreciated Teresa

Hello Teresa,  :)

I will try my best to find what I can and hope the marriage took place at one of the Kirkby or Annesley churches, as for George seniors baptism, I see the years for Eaton are covered on the IGI , C044541 and there is a baptism for George 22nd November 1812, father John Knight, mother Elizabeth.

Hello Teresa,

I have had a good day today,I did most of what I had set out to do, so the good news is I managed to find some of your Knight's.

Found the baptism for George Knight and just as it says on the IGI, 22nd Nov 1812, father John, mother Anne, I didn't see any other children for this couple so wondered if Anne had died, I did try and look but the burial fiche for Eaton covered 15th Nov 1725 to 27th March 1812, then jumped to 21st April 1813 to 18th Nov 1888, so it appears the months we needed aren't there.

Found the marriage for Arthur to Sarah Brooks straight away and another bit of luck was the entry for the other couple Albert Stewart and Mary Jones, they were both on the same register entry, except one couple married 28th March 1902 and the other couple the next day on the 29th, if you trace the couple back you will find Albert Stewart was your Arthur's mothers cousin.

If you send me a pm with an email address I will gladly send the marriage entry.

Sheila.
