Hi pootle,
have had a look on the 1891, for John Jones there are over 3,000 possibles, narrowing the search drew a blank! have tried to look for Thomas no obvious one, here is one for Susannah, but I don't think its the right one so will carry on looking

I checked the England 1891 census no obvious match for John Jones, b Ystradfodwg, there was one born Glamorgan, but he was with family,no sign of the others with him.
now looking on 1871

there is no obvious match and again listing over 3,000 possibles, I have checked the obvious but not with the other siblings.
no sign of ann, or mary jane with the others, could the birth place be listed as something else Merthyr or Dowlais? I checked against several other birthplaces for Sarah age 2 but still can't find her sorry, what about the parents names?

These are the closest ones I found in 71.

I found these by searching on Mary and with the  keyword Ystradyfodwg, and went straight to the Mary J's .

There were  only a small handful  around the right age group of Mary J's ( I love middle names  it makes it a bit easier to find  people). I didn't check the Mary's without a middle name though, there are too many  in the area of Ystradyfodwg.

These are the  only ones that I found  with  the same names of siblings and  ages that you have got there for 1881. They may or may not be yours.
Sometimes they don't know where they are born when they are adults filling out forms. The only ones born in  Glamorgan it seems are the two youngest children, Mary and sarah. He would have moved from Montgomeryshire when he was just  3 or 4 if it's him, so  he may not know he was not born in Ystradfodwg.

No luck in  the 1891 wales sorry , like newbie says there are far too many of John Jones in 1891. It would take me ages to search through them all, unlike this 71 one. Mary  Jane is probably married in 91 so I can't find them by her name.  John Jones  there are far too many, and I don't know what he is putting down as his birth place in 1891, Montgomeryshire like below, or Ystradfodwg like he said in 1881.

The ages seem to be matching up. They could be yours, they may not be yours either, but it could  give you something to check up on.
