Greenwich Pensioner
« on: Friday 20 October 06 00:27 BST (UK) »
Who qualified to become a Greenwich Pensioner ?  Have a relative shown on various records but don't know if he was RM or RN.  I have a feeling it will turn out either would have qualified him, so I'll be none the wiser.

I would appreciate any information about being a GP.

His records may be with the National Archives at Kew, here is the link to the guide for Ratings, but you can navigate your way around from here.

It would be worth trying to locate him on the 1851 census - he should still be serving then.  You might also find the 1861 census entry clearer.

If you give me his details I will have a look at the 1851 for Walmer to see if he is in the Barracks - it has been transcribed and indexed so it will be a matter of minutes to check next time I'm in Deal.

Sorry to take so long over this one - I looked at the transcript today but there is no William Hoile in Deal.  Unfortunately Walmer has not been transcribed, so I will have to look at the film when I have more time.
