Robert Knox

Has anyone any information please on Robert Knox born in 1821 in Paisley. I have found him on the 1881 census living in the Manchester area as a lodger. I know he was a printer compositor and had a son called Thomas, and he was shown on the 1881 census as widowed but I don't have any earlier information.
