How do I find a marriage? 1780
« on: Saturday 21 October 06 08:15 BST (UK) »
I am stuck!  I have traced them back to 1788 in Hanmer but then I cannot find any marriages or trace of them before this?  Where do I look?  Any suggestions would be helpful, because Hanmer is on the border with Shropshire/Staffordshire and was in Cheshire at one time I am looking into those possibilities but how do I find parents when there is no birth certicates around at this time?

William (ggggg grandfather)  & Mary (Trickel, Tickle, I think) born around 1760 married around 1780
children
Elizabeth C 21 Jul 1782 Hanmer, Cheshire, England
John C 13 Jan 1785 Hanmer, Flint, Wales
Sarah C 07 Jan 1787 Hanmer, Cheshire, England
William C 25 May 1788 Hanmer, Flint, Wales

Wiliam is my gggg grandfather born Hanmer, Flint, Wales 25 May 1788, I know he married a lady called Jane (again do not know where or who she was)
their children were
Ann c 1820, Hanmer, Flintshire
Jane c 1822, Hanmer, Flintshire
Martha c 1824, Hanmer, Flintshire
Emma c 1826, Hanmer, Flintshire
Elizabeth c 1829, Hanmer, Flintshire
William (ggg grandfather) c 1831, Hanmer, Flintshire
Harriet c 1834, Hanmer, Flintshire

I cannot find these people on the 1841 census but have found my ggg grandfather's marriage in 1850 in Kingswinford, Stafford.

If anyone can find a marriage between William Turner and Mary Trickel (Trickle) around 1780 or the marriage between William and Jane around 1819, I would appreciate the help?

Whilst I have no info unfortunately on your main points of query,Hanmer to my knowledge has never been part of Cheshire. It may have been placed in Cheshire by perhaps dubious submitted entries on the IGI.

Hi Dorey

I can concur with William about the location of Hanmer.

Unfortunately my Hanmer records only go up to 1750  :(  but I gather from your other thread that you've searched the Hanmer parish records.

Have you tried the neighbouring parishes - Bangor on Dee/Overton/Worthenbury, etc. Even Ellesmere is a poss.

Thank you William and Peter.

I have tried Ellesmere but nothing.  I am assuming that Mary was called Trickel because of an IGI entry.

How could I find out what her surname was?

Only other things is that that the Bishop Transcripts for Hanmer are in Chester Records Office and I have attempted to look through those but to no avail.

A kind person from Cheshire has found a marriage between a William Turner and Mary Trickett at Audlem St James on 2 January 1780 but will have to check this one out.

If you can think how I can find out where they come from please let me know?  But once again thank you
