Which Liverpool cemetery?
« on: Saturday 21 October 06 09:53 BST (UK) »
Which would be the most likely cemetery for someone to be buried who lived in the Scotland Road and Sackville Rd - Everton area in 1924. Im searching for buriel plot of grandmother Elizabeth HUGHES who was abt 44 yrs when she died.

Thanks to all.

Hi June, I would be certain the cemetery would be Anfield Cemetery in Walton. and I am certain it is Sackville Street, there was also a church there named St. Peter.

Thanks for speedy reply and name of Church in Sackville Street. Do you know if St Peters was C of E or RC?

Hi June, St. Peter Sackville St. Everton is a C of E church, I was baptised there myself. It was bombed during the war and later demolished, the new church stands on Langrove St.

Hi June, the records for St. Peter are kept at the Liverpool Central Library, unfortunately they are not on film so you have to join and then request the ledgers.

Hi June, I had to go to the Record Office today and having 15 minutes to spare I looked through the Anglican records for Anfield Cemetery, unfortunately I could not find an entry for Elizabeth in them. As she was registered in the Oct-Dec BMDs I searched from Sept 1924 until January 1925, but no sign of her there. Do you know whether she was R.C., if so, the nearest RC church would have been All Souls in Collingwood St, I think it was , or St Anthony on Scotland Road, the cemetery would probably still have been Anfield. I'm sorry I didn't have enough time to search the RC section, but time was limited.

I am so amazed how kind you are to do that search for me. Thank you very much. I didnt expect it.

My grandmother Elizabeth Hughes was deffinately RC and married at St Anthony's in Scotland Road.I have a record of that.
I wanted  to find where she was buried and to find  the date she died. Grandfather Robert was buried in Anfield but he was Anglican. I know she was only about 44 yrs (b1867)when she died so I have been searching around 1911 - 1912 but cant find anything. I think the date 1924 which I put in my original posting was incorrect.

However many thanks  again for doing the search - it was so kind of you.

Rgds
June
