COBHAM
« on: Monday 23 October 06 10:42 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know Cobham?
On the 1891 census my G Grandmother was living as an "inmate" in a place that although it is hard to read looks like "Footlands" recorded next to "Poynters farm".
The head of the household is Adelaide Adams who is described as the Matron. There is my G Grandmother and five other girls and four boys, also inmates, all born in London and between the ages of 14 and 4 years.
If anyone could shed some light on what this institution might have been I would be very grateful.
Thanks.

I know Cobham.

Poynters Farm is on Ockham Lane in Cobham.  This is the same road that my old residential school was on.

The school has since closed and has be turned into luxury apartments.  Have a look on the map and see if you can see Hatchford nearby.

Thanks for you reply
On the census There is Wren's nest then Poynters Green (2 houses)  then "footlands" (or whatever it says) then Hatchford Road. My GGrandmother eventually got married in Cobham so she must have like it there.

Thanks that would be great.
My GG Grandmothers name was Blanche Pourchot
Cobham Epsom Surrey RG12/549
I've just noticed looking again there is something faintly written after Matron and General servant is it "inst" and "Dom"
Institute and domestic?
Is that enough info?
Caroline.

Hi
I've had a look but still can't work out what it says ??? Looked on old maps site but nowhere marked near Poynters Farm. I don't think it is an F it starts with - compared with other F's on page - looks more like a Y but that doesn't seem to make sense ???
