hey there. my grand father was john alexander mitchell who married lyla anne mcclennan-williamson, they had one daughter, my mum vera may mitchell. my grand father was a sgt in the sea forth highlanders at fort george inverness. he his buried in nairn. looking for more information on the mitchells

According to ScotlandsPeople, John and Lyla were married at Abbotshall, Fife in 1926.  Their marriage certificate (which can be obtained from SP at a cost of £6.00, allowing you to look up 6 events) will give the names of both John and Lyla's parents. You may already know their names of course.
I found 4 John Alexander Mitchells born between 1901 and 1905:

1901 - Scoonie, Fife
1902 - Drainie, Moray
1902 - St Machar, Aberdeen
1903 - Hutchestown, Lanark

The births on ScotlandsPeople only go up to 1905, so if John was 20 or younger when he married, you would need to visit, or have someone visit, Edinburgh or Glasgow to find his birth certificate.
