1841 Census - JAMES
« on: Monday 23 October 06 17:34 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Can you please help with a look up of the 1841 census for Dorset - Tarrant Hinton or surrounding
area?

I'm looking for :SUSANNAH JAMES nee TOWNDLEY

born in Tewkesbury Gloucestershire circa 1798.

She married Philip James-a Dorsetman  in 1822

Thanks

regards

A Hannah James dies in Tarrant Hinton in Sep 1841 and Philip marries Elizabeth Glover (his wife in the 1851 census) in Mar 1845 which lends weight to the idea that Hannah was his wife.
He doesn't seem very lucky as Elizabeth appears to die in Mar 1852 before he marries Mary Shier(s)/Hardiman in Mar 1852.

Hi & thanks,

Why didn't I think of that! I was thrown by the fact that on the 1841 census Philip is shown with a Hannah and  Mary his mother. As he also had a sister called Hannah who was about the same age as his wife  I assumed it was her.It just proves what a fresh set of eyes can see!

Thanks again,

Regards
