Thanks Claire
I know that John and Ellen, his wife, were both born in Ireland and that their oldest (?) child Phillip was born in Liverpool in 1874. As they were born in 1847 and 1846 respectively they must have married around 1865 so that's quite a while before Phillips birth. I assume therefore that they came to England betweeb 1865 and 1871 (when they appear on the census in Ethiopa Street Liverpool. I've tracked the family through the census with help from a relative and got one or two certificates to double check as it is such a common name. I now need to trudge through baptismal records but didn't know where to start as they were such a funny mix, and non conformists always seem to be more difficult to trace as there is not so much help on the net in pointing you in the right direction!
kind regards
Brian
