Were would I find service records for merchant seaman from Arbroath for period c1840 - 1880?

Hi there wild goose , I happen to be looking for some of the same information regarding merchant seamen from around the Dundee area. I haven't had much luck finding anything as of yet, but will continue. Please let me know if you come up with anything will you ? I also wanted to ask you about one of the names your searching for , Nicoll ? I have a nicoll in my family going way back to the early 1800"s maybe we can share information and see what turns up ?
