Jenkin/s - Bettws & Llangynwyd
« on: Thursday 26 October 06 01:08 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I'm currently researching the Jenkin line of my tree, and was wondering if anyone was looking into the same ancestors.

I've managed to go back as far as David Jenkin, who married Gwenllian Jenkin in Bettws in 1830.  Their eldest child was Rees Jenkin born in Bettws in 1825.  David Jenkin died in Llantwit Fardre in 1850, but was buried in Bettws.  Although, David was born in Llangynwyd circa 1803.  I'm just waiting on some films from the Latter Day Saints to come through, to hopefully get more information off the parish records for David and Gwenllian's marriage and hopefully find out who their father's were to help me look further back.

If anyone has access to the MIs for Bettws, I'd be really greatful if David Jenkins MI was found.

Thanks.

Sally.

Greetings from Australia,
I think we may just have a connection. I have William Jenkins born in Llangiwg - think that is the spelling - in 1804. He married Jannah Williams in 1824

In 1949 Willaim was a Collier in Tynywain

He had children:

   Jenkin Jenkins, born 1826
                Rees Jenkins, born  1828
Mary Jenkins, born 20 February 1830
David Jenkins, born 4 January 1833
Catherine Jenkins, born 21 December 1834
David Jenkins, born 24 September 1836

I suspect William and David were brothers.

My rellie is Jenkin Jenkins. He had a son William Rees Jenkins. I wonder if Williams father was Rees?

What do you think?

Apologies just realized that this cenus is for Carms, thought it was Glam

Do not know if this will be any help to people searching Bettws, but found this 1841 transcribed census

Hi Janice

I'm in Australia too (Sydney), although I'm English, having been here for 9 years now.

The parish film I ordered for Bettws has come in so I'm off to look at it tomorrow.  I know it'll have David and Gwenllian's marriage on it, and hopefully the name of David's father, so I can see if his father was also called Rees.  Once I have this, then I'll be going to look at the Llangynwyd records to see if I can connect my David and your Jenkin.

Watch this space, I'll keep you posted soon.

Sally.

Hi there,

Since posting to you I have checked William's - 1804 - death cert. It states that his father was William and mother Mary, with no maiden name.

I am also in Sydney.

See my folder on look ups.

Goodluck with the search.

 Hello,
just to really throw a cat amongst the pigeons, There does not seem to be an MI for David Jenkin/Jenkins for either Sardis chapel or for St david's church in Bettws. I have his burial details as St David's church 1850 aged 46 but i am afraid that is all. It gives no detail of parents although a copy of the original may give more info.
As for his details in Llangynwyd, i am afraid there are no records of his baptism either.
Sorry!
