Help with Church records for Cumberworth please
« on: Thursday 26 October 06 01:23 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me with information on where to find church records that would incorporate Cumberworth district.  I am looking for records for James Tarbatt and Nancy Hepworth who married in 1770 in Batley but they and their children I have found were born in Cumberworth.

Nancy Hepworth was born in 1746, father Joseph, and James around that time although I have been unable to find him.  There are several spellings of the name Tarbatt, some I have found are Tarbat, Tarbet, Tarbut, Tarbit.

As I live in Australia and cannot visit I would like information on where to look or write for this information.  Thanks.

I thought that Cumberworth was possibly in the parish of Kirkburton -

but I've looked through the Kirkburton records and cannot find any TARBATTS or HEPWORTHs, sorry.

Do you know that Nancy and siblings (baptised at Cumberworth) are on the IGI though a extractions?

You might be able to find out  more about them from the records published by Huddersfield and District Family History Society.  Their website address is -

I have only found Nancy and a brother Chadwick.  Were there more?  I will check out the websites you have mentioned.  Cheers.
