Researching a building
« on: Thursday 11 November 04 11:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi

My wife's ggg grandfather is belived to have built the building our son's nursey school is now in.

I've census records that have his occupation as a builder and he's living in the right town - so how do I find out when the building was constructed and who by?

Thanks

Hi FK,

I have a similar problem, in that a relative is supposed to have built or maybe just designed the main post office in Warsaw, Poland.

First of all, on-line searches:

- if the building has a particular name, then Google is often quite helpful.

- If your wife's ggg grandfather also has a name (!) then that, plus "builder", or the name of the building,  in Google might also bring up some stuff

- Full details here might help a RootsChatter to provide more info.

off-line: write to, visit or phone, the town council and ask for details of the building ??

hope this helps,
Bob

Hi Guys,

To add to Bobs post,  a trip to the local Library may help !

If you browse the maps for the area it will give you a rough guide to the date it was built. They may be able to help more with your builder but I guess it would depend on the year that it was built.
