Churchyard of Macduff
« on: Thursday 26 October 06 21:08 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help as to how I can find out about burials in the churchyard of Macduff? BANFF

I have MyGGGGGrandmother death certificate,

CHRISTIAN MACEACHREN (or MCEACHRAN)

RIP 17 December 1857. I wondered if there might be a mention on the gravestone, about her husband Lachlan MacEachren, I am trying to trace his death.

Any help or advice would be very welcome   Yonder

Hi Yonder,

You could try contacting the Grounds Maintenance Office, Macduff at

Grounds Maintenance Office
Aberdeenshire Council
1 Church Street
Macduff
AB44 1UR
Tel: 01261 813 390
Fax: 01261 833 646

They may just refer you to http://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/bereavement/bb_burialgrounds.asp

but I think it would be worth trying the locals first  :)

Aberdeenshire Council has lodged all its burial ground books with the various Registrars. I expect that the Macduff books are held by the Registrar in Banff.

See http://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/registrars/offices/banff.asp

Unfortunately Aberdeenshire Council has decided that just to look at the burial ground books will be charged for at £10 per hour. I don't now how much they charge for looking up the information and sending it to enquirers.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
