Hi again Dennis  :)

This possibly suggests the Halkirk, Caithness baptism as the most likely but not realy enough evidence so far to go either way.

Where were the children born?

Hi again

Curiouser and curiouser!

I have found Christian on the 1851 census in Berwick. James is not with her and she describes herself as 'head' and married. With her is a 7 year old son James Windersham.

Here are the details:

HO107/2421 Folio 497 Page 5

Walkergate Lane, Berwick

Christiam Gunn, head, married, 27
James Windersham, son, 7, b.
Alexander Gunn, son, 2
Thomas, 6 mths

all born Berwick

I'll have another look for James. Was he a fisherman or sailor of some kind to explain why he wasn't at home?

Here are the details:

HO107/2421 Folio 497 Page 5 james was a visitor on the 1851 hartlepool census he was a stone mason christian was married to a robert windrem in 1842 so the 7 year old could be his son mispelt it gets more complicated if you want to know, I,ve only lived in berwick for 7 mths and decided to do my family tree then I found out my ancestors lived in berwick very interesting but james gunn is driving me round the bend prio to 1847.

This is the nearest James Gunn that I can find to yours, on land!:

HO107/2400,  Folio 187 Page 9

Shadwell Street, South Shields

James Gunn, head, married, 36, Master Mariner, b. Scotland
Mary Gunn, wife, 46, b. South shields
Ann Gunn, d, 9, b. South Shields
James,s,  8, b. S Shields
Elizabeth, d, 3, b. S Shields
Jane Crammond, Daughter in law, 14, b. S Shields ( I presume this is Mary's daughter, by a different partner)

Did you get his birthdate from the death cert? and who was the informant?

Starting to worry about this for you Dennis  ???

Hi Dennis

Sorry to not find anthing obvious but it would help if you could tell me  the source of your information:

How do you know he was born around 1810 in Scotland?

What did it say on his death certificate - e.g. occupation, informant, etc.

All these things - and anything else that you have - might help locate him.

Hi again Dennis

I've searched for him in 1851 in the hope that we could get more information. I can't find him in Eng & Wales or Scotland. He must have been mistranscribed badly.

It might be worth you trying to find him on the 1851, searching very widely.

Sorry.
