I have been wading through this one so forgive me if I am a bit muddled!   Have you got a marriage for Robert?     Who is his father?    Can you write to the local registrar for Kilburn (Genuki will show you which area to go to) and ask them to search for a possible birth, quoting the father's name?    Have you looked at the church registers for baptisms?
All a bit confusing I agree but if you work back with facts it should be possible.

Yes, I have the marriage cert. In Boyne Hill, Maidenhead, Reg Dist Cookham. 1889
Father Andrew.
His birth.....? argh.... Kilburn is in soooo many reg dist, from Paddington to Willesdon  and Hackney to Holborn.

I have all the birth certs for Robert, that I can find gro ref numbers for.
Have followed those up with mails to respective descendants....
Made a few friends along the way, as one does...  ;D

Don't know what to do next really.
